A DC Comics, DC Collectibles aka DC Direct (Action figures), and DC Universe (streaming service) layoffs — “blood bath” — occurred this week.
DC Direct, the company’s in-house merchandise and collectibles manufacturer has been shuttered after 22 years!
The Hollywood Reporter has word that a shocking third of DC Comics’ editorial staff were part of Monday’s roughly 600 layoffs at WarnerMedia
Editors let go on Monday:
- Brian Cunningham
- Mark Doyle
- Andy Khouri
Andy Khouri served a major role in DC’s complete rebranding and organization of its comics output in the establishment of the Black Label line a few years ago.
Senior members of DC’s editorial operations:
Senior VP of a publishing strategy and support services, Hank Kanalz.
VP of Marketing and Creative Services, Jonah Weiland (the founder of comics journalism site Comic Book Resources, who had only joined DC in 2019).
VP Global Publishing Initiatives and Digital Strategy, Bobbie Chase, who has helped spearhead DC Comics’ hugely successful push into YA and kids-focused graphic novels.
However, Jim Lee, DC’s Chief Commercial Officer, remains in place.
Amazon: What Are Brand Principles?
Brand principles are the “brand management” aspect of your brand – what is self-evident about the company’s operations or what barriers are drawn around the brand’s operations.
Brand values are in contrast. They are beliefs and opinions of the brand. See Ep. 19 on Apple about Brand Values.
Amazon is guided by four principles:
- Customer obsession rather than competitor focus
- Passion for invention
- Commitment to operational excellence
- Long-term thinking
- Amazon Web Services
- Prime Video
- Amazon Music
- Fire Tablets
- Fire TV
- Echo and Alexa
- Kindle E-readers and Books
